The competition called for a satisfactory approach to house a typical Single Child Dual Income Family in the 21st century China. We proposed the “Swing House” compiling a tier of partition walls fitted with build-in appliances, furniture and power networking. The swinging of the partition walls enables the life programme to “overlap” in time and space, actively responding to the ever-changing spatial need. A lawn extending the full length of the unit represents the courtyard in a traditional Chinese House to tie the individual rooms to the family zone, and the selves to the nature as a harmonious whole.
