30th Anniversary Designer Toilet Series
The bathroom at UB floor accompanied the Agnès b. theatre - a very popular spot for film-lovers. Our idea is to continue this theatrical atmosphere to the corners of the floor, and to the private space of the toilet. We set up a scenic ‘second’ nature - a “Black Hill on the Snowy Ground” - by using primitive materials and colors to resemble a wintery scenery - a cinematic experience for visitors.
The bathroom at UB floor accompanied the Agnès b. theatre - a very popular spot for film-lovers. Our idea is to continue this theatrical atmosphere to the corners of the floor, and to the private space of the toilet. We set up a scenic ‘second’ nature - a “Black Hill on the Snowy Ground” - by using primitive materials and colors to resemble a wintery scenery - a cinematic experience for the visitors.

The ‘Black Hill’ - a homogenous rubber-cladded partition - stretched across the room to tie up all cubicles. Each cubicle - with individual basin - is a tiny loo hidden from the outside world. The black & white scenery is a total alienation to the notion of a bathroom, dramatizing the visitors' conception. We applied a black rubber layer – a usually hidden bottom layer of a safety mat found at playgrounds - to the external face of the partition wall. This gives a subtle rock-like texture and stratified appearance to the exterior. The floor and wall were wrapped with rubbed grano, giving a white, shining ‘snowy’ background juxtaposing the solid, ‘hilly’ black rubber wall.
