HKCCSA Clubhouse Redevelopment
Competition, First Prize
The Club building, for the HKCCSA founded in 1914, is to be revitalized and enlivened to give a joyful setting as a HUB for the civil servants to foster a sense of pride and belonging. The design includes renovation of the existing main building and clearing of its obstructions, and the erection of a simple contemporary structure with a wide span to house a Chinese restaurant and sports hall. The old and new buildings embrace the tennis courts - the focus of activities and the central open space for the entire complex.

The new buildings employ a modular system and horizontal alignments to unite with the existing building. The harmonious juxtaposition of the old and the new unfolds the history of the club’s development, and the transparent skin and porosity activate the courtyard and the streets with activities within.

With the utilization of existing structures and proper planning to avoid extensive foundation and M&E works, effective use of simple material and modular pre-fab system have been employed to meet the budget constraints.
